Description
Cape Henry Collegiate, a leading independent, coeducational, PK-12, day school in Virginia Beach invites candidates to apply for substitute teaching positions. 

Position Duties (include, but are not limited to):
  • Teaching students across multiple disciplines, encouraging each child to reach his/her potential
  • Supervision and safety of children at all times of the day including arrival, recess, lunchtime, and dismissal
  • Assisting students with social/emotional learning support and guiding them to make good decisions with emphasis on treating all students with dignity and respect
  • Assuming full responsibility for the class in teacher’s absence
  • Maintaining professional relationships with all members of the school community

Education and Experience
Essential requirements include a Bachelor’s Degree and the ability to support the School's mission and core values. Applicants must be flexible and have a positive, nurturing approach to working with students. Past experience working in schools is preferred.

Physical Requirements
Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.

Hiring Process

Cape Henry Collegiate welcomes resumes and letters of interest at all times.

For a posted opening, qualified candidates will be granted a preliminary phone or video conference interview. Finalists generally are invited for a full-day interview.

In most scenarios, teaching candidates will be matched with a host teacher, who will provide helpful guidance before and during the visit. Candidates are interviewed by teachers, administrators, and in some instances students. Each teaching candidate delivers a sample lesson and has the opportunity to observe a class.
