Description
Cape Henry Collegiate seeks a dynamic individual to work in our Extended School Day Program (ESDP). The candidate must enjoy working with students ages 3-11 as part of a team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning and implementing developmentally appropriate activities for students in our afterschool care program while also assisting with the completion of homework assignments. ESDP daily hours are 2:30-5:30 p.m. Monday to Friday with occasional opportunities to work before school or for a full day.
 
Position duties include, but are not limited to:
  ● Planning a variety of creative activities for students in the after school program that meet their needs and interests
  ● Supporting and assisting students as they complete homework assignments
  ● Providing a warm and nurturing environment conducive to the social and emotional wellbeing of each individual child in your care
  ● Treating all children respectfully and with dignity
  ● Ensuring the health and safety of students at all times through close supervision in the classroom and during recess
  ● Maintaining a positive rapport and good communication with parents of children in your care
  ● Follow required laws, policies, procedures and practices including social services and CHC policies and guidelines
  ● Handling behavior issues in a fair and equitable manner, and reporting issues as appropriate to the Assistant Head or Head of Lower School
  ● Monitoring appropriate use and care of equipment, materials and facilities

In addition, we seek someone who is dependable, adaptable and flexible in order to meet the needs of all students in the class. He/she should be an excellent collaborator who can take initiative and generate ideas in support of all students in the after school program.

Education and Experience
BA/BS from an accredited college or university in the field of education or child development or similar is preferred. We ideally seek someone with 3 years of experience in a school or after school setting or other comparable experience working with children.

Hiring Process

Cape Henry Collegiate welcomes resumes and letters of interest at all times.

For a posted opening, qualified candidates will be granted a preliminary phone or video conference interview. Finalists generally are invited for a full-day interview.

In most scenarios, teaching candidates will be matched with a host teacher, who will provide helpful guidance before and during the visit. Candidates are interviewed by teachers, administrators, and in some instances students. Each teaching candidate delivers a sample lesson and has the opportunity to observe a class.
