Description

This full-time position will serve as the Human Resources Assistant reporting to the Director of Human Resources and will perform administrative tasks and services to support effective and efficient operations of the Human Resource department for Cape Henry Collegiate (CHC). Hourly rate is $18.00 - $23.00 based on experience.

Essential Tasks:

  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date human resource files, records, and documentation.
  • Answers frequently asked questions from applicants and employees relative to standard policies, benefits, hiring processes, etc.; refers complex or sensitive matters to the Director of Human Resources or CFO.
  • Maintains the integrity and strict confidentiality of human resource files and records.
  • Performs periodic audits of HR files and records to ensure that all required documents are collected and filed appropriately.
  • Provides clerical support to the HR department by uploading files to the HRIS.
  • Assist with payroll functions including processing, answering employee questions, identifying and assisting with the resolution of payroll discrepancies, and assisting with W-2’s.
  • Reconciles benefit invoices between payroll and employee enrollment records with external benefits providers and vendors, including health, disability, and retirement plan providers; follows up on discrepancies.
  • Assists with onboarding and new hire orientation.
  • Assists with benefits enrollment, qualifying life-event changes, and annual open enrollment.
  • Prepares routine HR reports, tracks administrative deadlines, and supports audits and other HR projects.
  • Works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators while providing responsive, professional service.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate's degree in related field required.
  • Two to three years of administrative experience in an office setting.
  • Prior experience in human resources, payroll, or benefits administration required.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including sound grammar and professional email communication. Strong organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail, including comfort working with numbers and reconciling records.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to prioritize competing deadlines, solve routine problems, take initiative, multitask, and work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and/or Google Workspace.
  • Ability to learn payroll management, human resource information system (HRIS), and related applications quickly.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Ability to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Hiring Process

Cape Henry Collegiate welcomes resumes and letters of interest at all times.

For a posted opening, qualified candidates will be granted a preliminary phone or video conference interview. Finalists generally are invited for a full-day interview.

In most scenarios, teaching candidates will be matched with a host teacher, who will provide helpful guidance before and during the visit. Candidates are interviewed by teachers, administrators, and in some instances students. Each teaching candidate delivers a sample lesson and has the opportunity to observe a class.
