GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Cape Henry Collegiate seeks a full-time STEAM teacher and department head for our Middle & Upper school to lead and support the School's work around technology, design, and innovation. In addition to teaching some stand alone classes, the STEAM department head will collaborate with teachers in the Middle and Upper School to support the implementation of innovative instructional technology and design thinking practices across disciplines. Qualified candidates should have a deep understanding of design thinking principles as well as experience teaching engineering, design, and/or technology courses.  He/she should possess strong leadership skills and be able to collaborate with and support teachers with the integration of technology and design into their courses. The STEAM teacher and department head will use technology as a vehicle to empower students to be critical and innovative thinkers and problem solvers.
Cape Henry Collegiate is excited to open the Clark+Ervin Center for Innovation and Performing Arts in 2024. This building will include multiple state of the art classrooms such as a fabrication lab and engineering suite. The successful candidate will be capable of stepping into a leadership role at CHC and helping to articulate and design the programming that is offered in this exciting new space.

ESSENTIAL TASKS

1.    Teaching STEAM and/or design courses within the current Middle and Upper School schedule.
2.    Working with the Middle and Upper School division heads to update current courses or explore addition of new courses within the STEAM department.
3.    Coaching and collaborating with teachers to develop, prepare, and implement lessons that integrate technology curriculum and design thinking across disciplines.
4.    Creating, preparing, and implementing site based professional learning opportunities that focus on the integration of technology in grades 6-12.
5.    Using technology to help students develop strong critical thinking and problem solving skills.
6.    Exploring opportunities to integrate and expand coding and robotics into the curriculum.
7.    Working with the Lower School Technology and Media Instructional Specialist to align technology standards across grade levels and disciplines and to integrate technology into curriculum.
8.    Creating opportunities for students and teachers to be innovative and future-focused.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
In addition, candidates must have an innovative mindset, find great pleasure in teaching and learning, have excellent listening and communication skills, be able to work collaboratively with colleagues and have a willingness to extend themselves beyond the classroom to support student success. Excellent written and oral communication skills are required. The right candidate is encouraged to join in all aspects of our lively, engaging, and rewarding school community life.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A minimum of three years experience teaching STEAM courses is expected. Service in a technology specialist or STEAM leadership role, a proven record of STEAM curriculum and program development, and/or the successful integration of innovative and technological best practices in the workplace are preferred. BA/BS from an accredited college or university, Master’s or other advanced degree and/or certifications related to technology, and/or experience working within the ISTE framework or skills and benchmarks related to technology will be given priority consideration.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Significant standing, walking, moving, climbing, carrying, bending, kneeling, crawling, reaching, handling, pushing, and pulling. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Hiring Process

Cape Henry Collegiate welcomes resumes and letters of interest at all times.

For a posted opening, qualified candidates will be granted a preliminary phone or video conference interview. Finalists generally are invited for a full-day interview.

In most scenarios, teaching candidates will be matched with a host teacher, who will provide helpful guidance before and during the visit. Candidates are interviewed by teachers, administrators, and in some instances students. Each teaching candidate delivers a sample lesson and has the opportunity to observe a class.
